So I’m new to the Cherokee life. I recently bought a 99 and appears to not have factory cruise. Obviously the buttons are missing on the steering wheel, but somebody has installed an aftermarket cruise. I have discovered that installing factory cruise is rather easy once you buy the buttons for the steering wheel and the clock spring With the cruise control harness the problem I’m running into is it doesn’t appear that the factory cruise control module is underneath the steering area behind the dash there is a black box there but I think it goes to the aftermarket cruise. Does anyone have a picture of underneath the dash of a 99 or newer, showing what the cruise control module box looks like and possibly a part number ? I have found what is labeled as a cruise control module box on eBay that is yellow but I cannot ascertain if it goes to a specific year except for one is labeled for a 1989. I don’t wanna buy the wrong cruise control box. everything else appears to be there, including the cruise control main unit itself under the hood. I have attached two pictures. One is what I am seeing under my dash now including the black box I think is the aftermarket cruise control box and the other picture is of the yellow box. I am seeing for sale on eBay that they’re calling the cruise control module again I am not sure if that yellow box on eBay is for a 1999 as I cannot find a part number for my year or any specific details of what the yellow box was out of. The seller does not know either. This is what is located underneath of my dash that I am thinking is the aftermarket cruise control module. I am finding several of these yellow cruise control module boxes that are not labeled specific for what year XJ except for one I found says it goes to a 1989.
You do not need the pictured box (wrong year, etc.)
You need the following-
Cruise control actuator (mounts in the engine compartment by the battery the cable runs over the throttle body) any year 1997-2001 all the same
Two cruise control switches for steering wheel (they are year specific IIRC 97-98 use certain part numbers and 99-01 use different part numbers- use the forum search function for other postings for actual part numbers)
Air Bag Clock spring with cruise control provisions (any year 1997-2001 will work)
It is a plug and play upgrade no PCM programming or other mods required.
