Default Please help. Time sensative simple question.

I have a 91 Cherokee Laredo 4x4. And please forgive me because I never rush a question here on the forum, however I desperately need a quick answer because the autoparts guy is clueless.

Long story short, took rear wheels off, took off rear drums and discovered I need new rear shoes and new rear drums because a groove was being cut into the passenger side drum.

I looked at the parts store and they have a finned drum and a plain drum. Someone told me these refer to the outside of the drum itself; if so then my stock drums are smooth across with no finning.

My brakes are stock. Does my 91 XJ have finned or plain drums? I cant check because its dark and the sale Im trying to catch ends very soon, plus tomorrow is the only day I can replace these for my DD.

Thanks very much to all who help.

the finned drum is 10" for the police package
the plain drum is 9" and is much more common
so unless you have the police package you want the plain
can you check with a flashlight to confirm?
I assume the drums are back on the jeep,

finned drums are better they help withbrake cooling... and that helps stop brake fade... which leads to better stopping... hope thats

np may I suggest you get the spring brake hardware kit and check your parking brake while you have it apart...

I was gonna ask about that.. We also ran into the unfortunate reason my e-brake doesn't exactly hold.

When we took the driver-side drum off, low and behold a little spring that's cable had been severed. We found this to be the e-brake spring in the brake. Would this kit have the parts to fix this?

Good to know this 2 size thing as I need to do my brakes very soon now I know to take a look before I go. Is there more than one size pad and rotor for the front too?
