Default Please help with this squeak

Just recently my cherokee developed a squeak from the front drivers side. You can hear it while driving but once I hit my brakes...even the slightest bit...it stops. I pulled everything off...checked it...then it quit for a few miles and now it's back. I was first thinking bearing or maybe u-joint but me hitting the brakes wouldn't cause that to quit. Any ideas?

Sounds like the pad wear indicators. JMO

did you clean the pads,if there is any dust or crud in between the pad and backing you'll get a squeak.shoot some brake cleaner in there and see if that helps.

The pads are pretty new so it's not the indicators.

I'll pull everything back off and hit it with some brake clean and see if that helps.

Let me know if you get that figured out. My MJ has the same problem. My pads are new. They told me my calipers were rusted so they were not opening properly. So I had them replace the calipers. No change. Took it back three times to fix it and it still does it. The brakes are awsome but the squeal bugs me to death.

Mine usually starts squealing after about 3 miles of driving.

I have seen this issue more with pads that are rivited onto the backing plate.

Just to update this thread...

I took everything apart and put caliper grease on all contact points on the pads and the squeak is gone for now.

I was going to add it could be slight harmonic vibration of the shoes - they can have a very very slight contact with the rotor until worn a bit

Usually the grease added will remedy this

Tried the anti sieze....held for a little while and now the squeak is back again. I'm about to replace the pads and rotors on this thing. Any other thoughts?

Put a slight chamfer on the leading edge of the brake pads and see if that helps.

I did that already. I'm wondering if I put in those little shims if that would help at all.

Did you scream at it really loud?

Seriously, I hate that squeak. I get it a bit when almost stopped. If it happens for more than 3 seconds I'll be changing everything as well.
