I have a 98 xj 4.0 and the smaller cooling fan wont come on. I was sitting in a parking lot idling and the thermostat gauge read 260 and the coolant was boiling over and spilling out. I replaced the fan relay a while back and just replaced the fuse and it still wont come on. What could it be?

 

is it plugged in?

 

Did you wire the fan directly up to the battery to see if it works?

 

It was working yesterday. Which is why i dont understand why it just stopped

 

Yes it was plugged in. No it doesnt work when i connected it to the battery

 

well the obvious would be that your fan has took a dump.. make sure the wires you tested on the fan were getting a a proper ground before you buy a new fan.
