One has all 6 cylinders in a line (I6) and the other has 3 and 3 in a v shape (V6)

V-6

As you can see there are two sides to this engine

Then in our Jeeps the bulletproof I-6 just one long block

If you put in a slant 6 I think this thread could be moved to the TECH section for reference

Slant 6 was a great little motor but I never saw one in a Jeep. Have you Bouncy?

Nope...not in a jeep. Saw one in a duster (car) once. Had 250k on it.

http://www.allpar.com/slant6.html

There is a picture of one.

I know my comment about the slant 6 wasn't specific to Jeeps. Just trying to have a complete clarification of the 6 cylinder line of motors. As the Straight, Slant, and V6 is always confused.

Just thought of another, the radial 6 used in aircraft in the 20s to 50s.

Post *****.

That doesn't apply to automotive.

Ah, yes the "flat 6" or as Corvair-guys call em..."Suitcase 6's"

Radial 6 aircraft yes.
But put in automotive terms..Rotary 6?

A Slant 6 225 in a Jeep? I would love to see that. IMHO they are more bulletproof then the 4.0L I6....

Ok. I'm sure that comment ruffled some feathers...

The slant six engines are probably the toughest engines ever built. Simple to work on, and last forever. Dad had one in a 71 Duster, he ran it for 2 weeks with only a half quart of oil in it, trying to blow it up. It finally started knocking on him one day, he got out and filled up the crankcase, and it quieted back down!! He drove it for another 6 months and it still ran when he parked it with over 200,000 miles on it.

My dad had a '62 Dodge Lancer with a slant six. Tough as a tank - the engine and the car.
