Default plastic door panels

i took off my door panels to try and switch out my locks, cause i have no keys for them. well i cant get my big *** hands anywhere near them to do that. so i gave up on that so i switched out my speakers while i was there. the door panels are cardboard and they have gotten wet at some point and are extremely flimsy and moldy as well. so i would like to switch these out asap. so did they ever make plastic ones and if so do they mount right in. i would love to go no doors. but the seattle area is a little to rainy for that. thanks in advance for any help

whats worse is how you have to kinda force it around the door handle, and it makes it worse and worse. not to mention that after the plastic fasteners pop out that first time you are forever screwed

my suggest and probably the only option since I doubt there are any aftermarket options is if ya can make a template of them you could make fiberglass panels and mount em on the holes using screws and anchors..That's about the only option I could see...or tube half doors..

I have seen trail Jeeps in which the door panels were removed and replaced by aluminum panels with the handles and switches inserted in the aluminum. Even had them held in place with the aircraft "Deutz" fasteners.

i was thinking along those same lines, just going through the sheetmetal shop in our hanger. most of the door panel is flat anyway. i was just hoping that at some point jeep decided that the cardboard wasnt cutting it, and upgraded with the same doors.

Sorry not trying to hijack your thread but I want to know where you found door lock cylinders? I have an '88 and neither the ones AutoZone or O'Reilly's had listed are the correct ones. Jeep dealer wants a small fortune. My last option is that I am going pull one of the lock cylinders and take it to a locksmith and hope he can make me a key. And yes I didn't find out they weren't the right ones until I had spent about 1.5 hrs getting the dang thing out.

On an '88 I think they are GM cylinders. The locksmith will be able to tell you. Mine is a '90 and the key blanks are GM.
