Default Piston Ring Blow By

Post this in General ... oops ... was suggested I post here.

I'm sure there re similar threads but this is quicker.
I have an '86 Cherokee 4 cylinder. 240K miles. I'm getting consierable blow by. Last year I increased the valve cover vent tubing size knowing that was only a temporary putting off.

I replaced a valve and lapped all the valves several years ago and there is NO ridge in the cylinders. I'm thinking I can get away with just replacing the rings.

Here's my forum question: Has anyone out there done this without removing the engine. I really don't want to do that. Can the oil pan be removed with out to much trouble?

Thanks all who read and comment.

Mines a 4.0 but I just reringed mine with the engine still in. The oil pan on mine was no prob with 8" of lift lol.. the hardest thing on mine was the rear head bolt on the driver side had a stud on it that hit the firewall. Cut the stud and all was good.
