Default which pipes?

I cant make up my mind whether I want a 40 or 50 series flowmaster on my xj. It seems like most people run the 40 series but I'm afraid it will be too loud. Then I think the 50 may be too quiet and I won't be able to tell the difference from stock. They are supposed to flow the same so that doesn't help me decide. I wish I could hear both, then decide. Anyone run either one of these and what do you think. Thanks. -Shawn

I personally do not care for Flows that much. if you want a chambered muffler, go with a flow-tech warlock. Otherwise, I would say go with something that has a straight-thru design such as magnaflow/bullet performance or a Dynomax ultraflo.

I love my Flow Master 40. It really isn't loud unless I put my foot into it. It makes a nice low throaty sound most of the time. It buzzes like an angry hornet at 5000 rpm.

i got a buddy with the flow 50's on a dodge and they make a racket.. i also got a friend with the 40's and they are noisy to. I'm going with just a cheap turbo muffler. i got a flow race series on my big block and it is obnoxious!! I think when you buy flowmasters alot of what you pay for is the name. i ran a bullit on a ranger i had and it sounded amazing... as good if not better than the 10 series on my 1 ton
