Picture request: Distributor
I'd need to see some pictures of the distributor placement, looking straight down perferably, and I'm thinking 92-99 motors. I have not tried to start my engine yet (I'm still taking care of some minor details) but I've been stumped about the correct way to index the distributor. The methods in print so far have not worked for me. Sticking the pin in the cam sensor to distributor housing line-up hole will not make my rotor point at #1 cylinder on TDC. I took a look at my old '99 and the mounting screws for the cap seem to be in a different location than on my '97 I'm rebuilding. I did confirm that #1 plug wire is plugged in just after the cam sensor wires passing through the body of the distributor. I'll try to post up my pics later tonight. This is really starting to bug me....

u sure u'r 99 has a distributor? thought all 99's got coil packs
i had that "problem"... couldnt get the rotor to point to #1, & i swore i was at TDC... turns out i was using the wrong notch on the crank pulley... the notch is on the face of the pulley, not on lip, next to where the belt rides...
i kno i have pix somewhere... i hope this helps

From what I've read there was a change mid-year 99 that went to distributorless.
Here's a pic of the '99, and its even got the cap with #1 embossed on it. I wish I could have taken the cap off to see where the rotor and cam sensor line up.

Here's a shot of my '97. This is as close as I can get with the distributor body lined up, rotor would be pointed at the center of #1 spark plug, but as you can see the cam sensor is off, probably about 15*.
If I put a pin in the hole and line up the cam sensor then my rotor is already way past #1 spark plug by the time the piston reaches TDC.
