Peugeot BA 10/5 transmission swap.
I just bought an '89 XJ with the infamous Peugeot transmission. Even with the low mileage of the vehicle (approx 135k), the transmission is already pretty much pooched. I was looking at swapping it with an AX-15, and had a couple questions:
1: I know that the external slave cylinder transmissions are preferable (After '93 I think it is?) however, how much extra work is involved in the removal/installation of this system into an older XJ?
2. The Jeep is a 2WD, and most of the Jeeps at the junkyards where I am are 4WD. Is it possible to swap a 4WD transmission into a 2WD application?
Thanks in advance,
Evan.

Hmm, yes I was certainly considering that. Will I need a shorter DS if I use the xfer case? The "housing output" or whatever the piece called on the 2WD may be shorter?

Details of the swap, including my own (BA-10 to AX-15i, I'll update it with going to the AX-15e, when I get a chance.)

Of course a donor vechicle is the easiest way all you need is there except pilot bearing from advanced/novac adapters. Ba 10 to Ax 15
