Hi all! New to the Cherokee world, just picked up a 96 jeep Cherokee sport cheap, that wouldn't start after someone drove to the store. I assumed it was the CPS, since it had no spark.
Replaced it, no luck. Also has no fuel pressure, pump won't kick on. Tried moving relays around with no change.
A code reader will not connect to the PCM. I can't get it to give me any info. Does this mean my PCM is simply bad?
i want to replace it, but I can find no real answers on what PCM I can put in, how to I.D a California emissions PCM (I'm in California) and whatnot.
i have included a picture of the part number on my PCM, can someone help me on what I can replace it with? and should I replace it?
Don't know where PCM part number 56041251 comes from. It doesn't show up in the '96 parts catalog. But It does exist. I checked a MOPAR site and plugged that number in and it showed it but not which Jeep it goes to.
The parts catalog listing for a '96, 4.0, auto trans, calif emissions, is part number 56027892.

does this mean I can bolt a 56027892 PCM in and be good to go, smog and all?
also, do all the numbers need to match, or just the ones listed above? If that's the case, I may just buy a used 56041251.
Normally no communications with the PCM is caused by a power circuit not feeding the PCM. I would start by checking fuses. Check them all you could have more than one blown. If you get multiple fuses that should have power without power check for bad connections and/or fusible links at the starter. Hope this helps.
