Exclamation Pathfinder vs. Cherokee

OK my neighbor has a 1997 Pathfinder with 31" dayton timberline A/T's that he always claims could "out-mud" my 1996 Cherokee even when mine is manual, has a 3in lift and has 31" BFG A/T's on it. He claims that his V6 engine is much more powerful and my I6 is weak and that clearence won't make a difference. Is he right?

the VG30 is a dog of a motor, they make decent crawlers not so much in the mud, plus he might have steering issues with the week linkages

if he is so sure tell him to put some money on it and see how serious he really is. but if he is game i hope your tires throw out that mud good and the I6 def has way more torque thats why its such a classic and outlasting design

It depends on the driver as well.

Ive owned and built a 93 toyota and now I have a XJ, the IFS is the weakest link, and it only gets weaker when you lift it IMHO.

However, the 3.0 turbo diesel found in the Nissan Patrol's are bad *** *****!

and... let me digress somemore... I think the Patrol's 3liter I6 motor would be bad *** in a XJ.

I'm a huge Datsun/Nissan fan, but am not so hot on the Pathy. 3 of the rigs I currently own are Datsuns under the age of 73. Those are quality rigs back then. The only Nissan product I have is a motor swap I did to my old 510 that now has a KA24DE in it. Needless to say the VG motor is a great base motor from which you cant compare to an inline 6. The Cherokee would dominate for sure against the Pathy. I'm only partial to both seeing how I have 4 jeeps hahahaha.
