Passenger mirror on my 99 XJ
How does the glass come off? I have a broken passenger mirror on the 2000 and I want put one on from my 99. Can I just pop off the mirror and backer plate and reinstall? I don't wanna break anything

It will most likely break. Go to your local Windshield replacement professional. You should be able to order a "Burco" brand replacement mirror that will simply double stick tape over the old mirror. If I had my catalog handy I would get the burco number for you. Ill try to remember to look tomorrow. PM me so I don't forget. If you can't get it maybe I can and ship it to you at cost. Shouldn't be but about $20-$30 max.
Glass is what I do so...........maybe I can help.

I got lucky with mine. The glass just popped off one day and didn't break. I used 3m double sided trim tape and silcone adhesive to put it back on. cleaned everything up with rubbing alcohol first. Benn holding for several months so far.

I buy the mirror glass off of eBay for under 15 bux usually. Wearing safety glasses and gloves, I carefully remove the old glass WITHOUT messing with the plastic mount. Then simply re-glue the replacement glass onto the mount. If your actual HOUSING is busted, or the motor is shot, then you need to pony up and buy the whole unit. Runs about 75 on eBay per side.
