Parts to replace if nothings wrong
Hello. How is everyone tonight? I have some time off coming up and love tinkering with my Jeep and was wondering if anyone has any opinions on the following topic. I have a '94 XJ and live close to 5 big well stocked junkyards and there are many newer lower milage XJs in them. Assuming that all the routine stuff is up to date on my Jeep are there any parts that might be worth swapping out now even though they might be still working just to get something fresher in there and avoid a future problem longer? I see 00-01 XJs in there which have been in wrecks but since they have near 100,000 less miles on them than my XJ there has to be stuff that's worth grabbing now while I can even if I don't immediately need it.

If you wanna keep some basic stuff handy, try to grab an alterator and starter if you plan on doing any water or mud while offroading.

I noticed that you are in Baltimore, Maryland. By chance, would the salvage yard which you mention br Crazy Rays ? I great place to visit, but I wouldn't want to live there, Baltimore, that is.
I was wondering. If these Xj are are low milage with less than 100K miles how do you know that since their odometers are digital? I guess you could bring along a 12 Volt battery just to activate the odometers.

What's at Hawkins Point anyway ? Is it a Jeep only salvage operation, or a general all brands car re-cycler?

I stock up on switches, power window, door lock, turn signal, stuff like that. The 99 and newer XJ stuff may be harder to find in the future because there aren't as many on the road like the earlier years, so stock up now. Power door lock actuators are a good thing to keep on hand, along with window motors.

Some swap their intake manifold for a 99+, and I've seen reported gains upwards of 15 horses. This, on top of an injector swap & new headers, are on my wish list of things to do.

The other yards that I've been to have been very muddy and in the Case of the Jessup yard, on a big hill.
They are a Generic car junkyard, Its a pick and pull so the costs are pretty low. It costs $1 to get in and you can spend hours just wandering around looking at everything they have.
