I got a line on an almost free 1984 Cherokee with a little 4 banger in it.
I was going to use it as spare parts for the 88 that has a 4.0 inline 6 in it but was wondering if the body and frame are same.
Could I take a 1988 or early 90s drive train and stick it in a 1984 frame?
If I want to use the 84 for spare parts for the 88, are the front ends, rear ends, steering components and body parts the same??

The firewall was modified for 1987 to accommodate the 6-242. If you want to "power up," a GM V6-182 or 207 will be a simple swap (since they're the big brothers to the V6-173 that was an option for 1984-1986,) and the V6-262 or SBV8 will be a simple enough swap using OTS parts.

Well, I don't plan on making any 2 wheel drives out of the mess I'm getting into so I'll be OK with there.
I guess I'll take up the offer on the 84 and hang on to and see what happens. I just hope I don't get bug up my butt and start a used jeep junk yard.
I'm sure the wife is not going to be happy with all these vehicles being in various stages of dismemberment. I'll have to tell her I'm doing all this for her and the kids.
