Default Part Time 4wd not working

I've done some searching and have not much luck finding a thread for what I'm seeing on my cherokee.

Part time doesn't work when I shift into 4wd, the transfer case does give power to both drive shafts and the fluid is full, also have vacuum to the actuator on the front and the shift fork does move. I've checked everything i can think of on the front end except pull the cover on the front differential.

I live in maine so I'm going to need 4wd soon, is there something that I might be missing other then the possibility of bad gears in the differential? I've never done any diff. work before and I've been told they can be a pain..

i thought mine didnt work either when i first bought it, but I made up a little way to figure it out. I got two wheel ramps (the kind you drive right on to work under the car) backed up my rear wheels up to them and held them in place, put some vegetable oil on the back wheels and tried to back into them. of course they were slipping so i pulled the handle back and sure enough...4wd was working fine lol

Drink a couple beer with your buddies and try this haha it worked for me

Uh oh.... Was there ANY resistance when you spun it? Did it just spin free?

"have vacuum to the actuator on the front and the shift fork does move"

Can you move the shift fork any farther by hand?

Yeah, as stated. You really need to pull the cover and see whats going on in that front end, if anything at all. Hate to assume but if there was NO retention... Not good. You may be missing some parts.

Please keep us posted when/ if diff cover is pulled.

definately a dana 30, and if your going to replace it, you may as well swap in a complete non disco front end
