Default Part Number for 16 PSI Radiator Cap?

'91 XJ Sport
4.0L HO motor
CSF 3-Row Radiator from Radiator Barn.

I'm looking for a new radiator cap for my XJ, but all the places where I usually shop always pull up a 13 PSI cap. Can anybody recommend a brand & Part#?

Stant & Gates are both good.

Thanks ...

I'm looking for this too. I found a part # yesterday and I believe it was from advanced auto parts but now I can't find it. I just plan to go in there and ask

A 16lb radiator cap should be very common at your parts store. If the counterperson can't find it, you need to shop at a better store. The Napa part number is 703-1698.

Thanks for sharing your information ... I live way out in the boondocks in a log home on 20 acres at the end of a dirt road in Western Montana ... about 40 miles from the nearest store, so I do a lot of my shopping online. It's cheaper to have some parts shipped to me than to drive 80 miles round trip.

That part number is a big help ... I'll buy it on the NAPA website, or use it to find the corresponding Stant number.

Thanks!

What are the positives/negatives to running the 16psi vs 13psi? Is it preferable only in certain situations?

I am planning grabbing a new cap this weekend, but now I feel the need to first find out if I would benefit more from a 13 or 16. I am running 100% stock (OEM) parts at this point. Thanks in advance.

16lb has a 9 degree higher boiling point than a 13lb cap. No big deal.

That's good to know. It's probably more important that you have a good high quality radiator cap and replace it every few years. They do wear out and are frequently overlooked as a maintenance item.

......especially on the "open" cooling systems. The rad cap contains 2 valves and 3 sealing surfaces and must function correctly. One thing to consider is, the higher the cooling system pressure, the slightly greater the chance of a internal/external leakage (weak head gasket, freeze plugs, seals).
