Parasitic draw
Hi All,
I am suffering from a parasitic draw on my 2001 XJ 2.5TD (UK)
Can anyone share an accurate fuse and relay labelled image to help me pull the fuses one by one?
And
Can anyone share a comprehensive set of pictures of all the eathing points so I can go round and check them all?

Disconnect the negative battery cable and put a test light between it and the negative post. Pull fuses, one by one, until the light goes out. Put them back in, one at a time, leaving out suspect fuses until they're all installed. That's your circuit with the draw. From there it should be fairly easy to find.

Thanks both - sounds like I've got a bit of work ahead!
My other thought was that it may be a loose earth connection - since the drain can be intermittent. Do you know of any guides on earth points, preferably with photos or good diagrams?

The guys at the auto repair shop have never picked up a drain whenever they connect their ammeter. So the only thing I can say is that it is an intermittent drain - which unfortunatley makes it really difficult to trace. Are there any common sources of an intermittent drain do you know?
Just a thought - the only thing that has happened recently is that occasionaly the drivers door does not unlock with the central. I just lock and unlock a few times to get it to open. Could a sticky lock cause a parastic drain that flattens my battery after 4 days stationary?

Aftermarket stuff, such as a stereo or an alarm system can do that. A battery with a dirty top can drain itself just sitting there too. A loose ground/earth connection would cause the opposite of a parasitic draw. It would cause things to not work.
The issue I had was a few years ago, but it drove me crazy. The interior lights would come on randomly and I didn't know about it. Drained the battery completely a few times until I went outside at night and saw it all lit up. I chased that thing down for a couple weeks before I found it. Turned out that a previous owner replaced the antenna with an aftermarket one and the grommet on the original antenna wire that sealed to the inner fender was no longer there. It rusted the passenger floor board and dripped waterfall over the fuse box.

Not likely to be your problem, but it's always a good idea to clean up your grounds.

are you 100% sure you have a parasitic drain ?
one one occasion, a newish battery developed a "bad cell", only my persistence and a battery specialist finally ironed that one out
it was very frustrating, as the battery would gradually lose power over a few days
passed all tests except hygrometer found the bad cell

More modern vehicles are much harder on the battery than historical vehicles because now there are a dozen or more computers in there all drawing a little current all the time. My 09 Chrysler 300 will kill the battery in 10 days if not driven, even though everything is operating perfectly. During the lockdowns I had to get solar battery minders to keep my cars healthy, except my 76 Volare. When it is off it is absolutely OFF.
Still, 4 days is quicker than just normal drain no matter how modern. Could be that some signal wire is messed up so that one of the computers doesn't go into low power sleep like it should. If I remember right, my 300 ranges in the 30 mA to 50 mA when it finishes everything after parking. My old Subaru with one computer is around 5 mA.
