I am going to prep and paint my bumpers with "plasti-dip".
My question for u guys is how should I go about painting my plastic flares and bumper corners?? I would like them to be a satin or gloss black.
Thanks!
And here is the link to my xj with pics of the flares.

Im no expert in painting plastics but I would assume you are scuffing them up? After that I would shoot them with adhesion promotor (avail from any FLAPS) and then have at it. Good luck.

Trim Paint by Duplicolor. Works great, have had it on mine for almost 2 years without any fading or peeling. $6 a can at local parts stores.

Just go ahead and use standard car soap. Make sure it dries completely and then rub it down thoroughly with rubbing alcohol and a lint free cloth. Make sure that it dries thoroughly then you're good to go!

Second this...I just actually finished painting both bumpers and the flares last weekend. I used Rustoleum "All surface paint". Works good for metals and plastic. Before spraying I scuffed them up a little with 320 grit sand paper. Don't go to deep sanding as it will show up once painted. Just enough to let the paint adhere to it. Have plenty of light when you paint so you paint it evenly. Let it set overnight to cure and you should be good to go....I got the satin black, and its not too gloss and not too dull. I like it a lot.

Yes, the plastic just fades over time. The sanding will help rough up the plastic so the paint will adhere to it better.

I think you can buy paint specially formulated for plastic at any Home Depot. I'm about to do this same project so please report back on how yours turns out.

I did the front bumper trim on my Dodge with Krylon Fusion a few months ago. Seems to be holding up great. I've used on front bumper trim in the past with no issues. I'll be doing the flares/trim on our XJ soon. However, I'm planning on using bedliner for the center/metal sections of the bumpers.
