Sand, guide coat, sand, sand, bondo, block sand, repeat about a million times, then paint and clear coat.

only rust i had on my 94 xj was a few small pathces on the rockers, i just sanded um down to bare metal and cleared as much rust as i could and i rustoleum rattle canned em with semi gloss. actually matches pretty well and you can hardly tell
I'm in the process of rattle canning my 87 right now. Taping off some of the factory paint to make some crude, factory maroon metallic racing stripes.
I've got a build thread going, and I'll be posting the results via pictures as soon as I'm done, which will hopefully be by Sunday.
