Yes guys, my tire carrier is the OEM carrier off of an 89 XJ I found in the local junkyard. I got it complete with license plate relocation hardware for $25. Another round of scrubbing, wire brushing, oiling moving parts and painting and it looked and worked like new. That is a 32" tire and I have already tested it with a 33, because I will be installing 33s on my XJ soon.

Oh, I forgot to answer your other question. It took about 3 1/2 cans of each (flat black primer and gloss black. I just kept putting on more coats until I ran out of paint.

Cheapest and most durable way is buy the Rustoleum Stops Rust primer and paint I use the quart cans with a brush to paint it. I did my utility trailer last spring (original paint was VERY weak), after knocking the rust off with a wire wheel. I used the Stops Rust primer and Gloss Black with 1 inch and 2 inch brushes. It is a VERY durable finish and has held up to all the hauling I did last summer and this fall. Spray cans would have been spendy to achieve the coverage I have. I then painted my rear tube bumper on my '84 with the leftovers. Turned out great!

Ignore my log pulling strap. Yes, its worn.. Yes it has hooks. Great for dragging logs around the back 40. Rummage sale for $1 new in box.

Here is my brush painted bumper. The XJ was also painted with rollers.
