I just got this code 2 days ago on my jeep, while driving cruise will not work and it wants to stay in 3rd instead of shifting into overdrive. In the past 2 days it did run fine 2 times with no problems at all. I know this is a torque converter clutch circuit trouble code, but I've seen some odd fixes for this. I do have a 4 inch rough country lift on it, with off road 265/75/16 inch tires if that would affect it. I honestly don't have much experience working on this, because it's been a great vehicle so far. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

What year? What engine?
P0740 is a Torque converter clutch issue, often a solenoid or the associated wiring. The rest of it sorta depends on what you have.

 

It's a 99 with the 4.0 engine and the AW4 transmission.

 

I disco'd and clean all wiring and connections to and from the transmission and replaced the TPS. So far all is good with it but it's only been driven one day.

 

Did this issue ever come back? Im having the same problem.
