Default p0705 and 1899 codes

Hi all... 1998 cherokee sport just purchased had p0705 p0700 and 1899 codes. I removed NSS cleaned, reinstalled and adjusted so it starts in park, starts in neutral and reverse lights work. Cleared the codes and drove it for only a few minutes before the 705 and 1899 recurred. Any suggestions? thx Ron

P0700 is a generic code that simply states that there has been a fault detected in the TCM circuit.

P0705 is a Range Sensor (NSS) fault.

P1899 is a Park/Neutral Switch Performance fault.

P0705 and P1899 point to your Range Sensor, or as referred to here, the "NSS".

Do your rverse lights work? Will the engine crank over in Park? If not, it sounds like you need to remove the "NSS" and clean it or replace it. If the reverse lights work and you can crank the engine in Park, there may be a wiring problem. That being said, I would still suspect the NSS.

If you Google search "NSS Cleaning, Jeep Forum" you may find several tutorials on how to do this.

Good luck

Default Check the Bulbs!!

I know very odd to have that effect the Transmission but it happened to me tonight.
SO I had a side marker/blinker that blinked but didn't light up as a side marker in my 1999 XJ Sport.
So I bought a bulb, not knowing what number to get the auto store person looked it up to be a 194. when I went out to replace it the bulb in the socket was a 168 so I exchanged the bulb for the 168.
I put the one in (right side, the vertical one) and drove off, within a mile the tranny shifts from OD to 3rd and back like I'm cruising just between to two and it can't make up it's mind... then I get a check engine light.
Fortunately I have a Bluetooth OBD2 reader plugged in and the Torque App on my phone to read the code right away. It is the P0705 code. I stop to clear it and it comes back even before I turn the engine over. I do this a few times to make sure it is not a false positive, no luck! I get home and Google "P0705 jeep" and I end up here as I have many times before. One thing stood out was the blinker bulbs. I changed out the other side to balance the ohms.. no luck!
I went to the auto store again to get the 194 bulb and see if it is the culprit...
Bada Bing Bada Boom!!! NO CODE!!!

I love how we can share our hard knocks here, I hope this helps many more!!!!

I went from Auto to Manual and got those same codes.
For the 1899, it was caused because I shorted the park/neutral wire to ground so it would crank over but the computer did not like being in park all the time so I wired it to my clutch switch and Voila. no codes.

so morale of the story, you park/neutral switch may be grounded.
I could be wrong but here is the diagram. The line to look for is the starter relay line. It also go to the PCM

As far as the light making the code go away????
All im thinking is a ground is making its way somewhere it shouldn't.
A little confusing.

Remember %99 of electrical problems are from bad ground/connections
