Default 2000 XJ P0306 and P0441 codes

Engine light is on but is not blinking. Cylinder 6 misfire and evap issue.

Theres a rough idle and slight fuel smell coming from the exhaust after longish distance drives. It runs fine down the road but I have a feeling it is running rich because it seems the gas mileage has worsened.

I've tested the coil pack I have and it is good. I also replaced all of my spark plugs with Autolite Platinums.

Next thing was going to be testing the injectors with noid lights. However, I cant help but feel like the codes are related and that there may be a vacuum leak.

Should I try a vacuum leak test with either baby powder or carburetor cleaner?

I asked a mechanic and he suggested trying replacing the purge solenoid. He checked and claimed the vacuum lines are good and that there is no issue with the gas cap. I'd like to run the right tests before buying any more parts.

Is there a spot to check specifically for a vacuum leak?

Any suggestions or help would be appreciated.

WELCOME.

"I'd like to run the right tests before buying any more parts." VERY smart.

Others will probably be along to possibly give you a simpler solution. Unless I've dealt with the problem code personally I go to this site. At the bottom you can get info on other codes.

When I had a evap system leak I checked all the hoses at the evap canister they where loose so I cleaned the hose and fitting they went to then used a tie wrap around the hose like a hose clamp . that was about 4 years ago and have not any problem . and for the miss fire you can try moving the fuel injector to another cylinder and see if the miss fire moves with the injector .

Climb under there and look at the stuff around the fuel filler and gas tank. There's a metal tube that can rust out and rubber that can deteriorate.

X2 on that, was what it was on my xj. Multiple trips to the hardware store for little clamps hoses and fittings and it cleared up. Although, I cannot remember if I had the 0441 code, I think mine ws the large leak or small leak code. the o441 is Incorrect Purge flow...not exactly sure where that is from. Also mine is a 98 xj so the wording may be different. But this is the place to start, in the drivers side rear up from the wheel.
Being a 2000 I would be suspicious of the infamous cracked head leak, ...but I don't know if that would cause a misfire code which is what your 306 is. As previous poster said try changing the injector for a different cylinder and see if the code follows it.
