Default P0135 code, but then...

Hey y'all... Today, my CEL came on with that code thrown. What I did today:

First off, all I did today was inspect my steering and suspension (been hearing a slight knocking on rear passenger side going downhill while braking) and wiped sludge off my tie rod boots (looks like I need a new one on passenger side) and also found my bottom rad hose was resting on top of the tranny line from the rad, creating a small indent in the hose caused by the spring clamp (not to blame hubby, but that was the only hose he put back on the rad, since I let him, which now I'm regretting. )

Anyways, I didn't move anything down there because I know I would have to drain to re"place" the hose and I gotta pickup hubby in 45min, so no time for that today, gotta get supper ready. Ok? Got it? No major touching anywhere...I went to go fire her up and noticed my CEL. Waited a minute to see if it would disappear and no. So turned her off, grabbed my scanner, plugged it in and turned the key on, no engine....I hear a light "popping" or "knocking" from what seems to me the rear passenger side. I'm thinking fuel pump maybe? It was steady at first for 10 seconds then slowed to stop. So like, I hate to do this but,

pop,pop,pop,pop...pop...pop....pop....pop......pop .........pop.........pop.................pop.

More like a thump maybe, not a pop? Any thoughts? I searched the P0135 code threads here, but maybe someone can point me in the right direction with this "other" symptom. Also, I did temp gun test my cat and its within normal range.( Lower in the front and higher in the back.) Whoever read all this....Thanks! I appreciate any info I can gather.

Just from some searching, it looks like its an O2 sensor. Not sure if that answers the question about the "popping" or "thumping", but that's what the code is.

I'm sure someone else will jump in. Maybe CCKen will chime in. He has all the trouble shooting answers.

Yes, I hope he does! I read his other replies in those threads and are noting them in my own notebook to take with me "outside".

Does anyone know if this is the correct replacement part for my jeep, please? It says it's my bank 1, s1.

Order from RockAuto. NTK is the OE manufacturer of Cherokee O2 sensors. I purchased a set for a buddies XJ and they've been flawless. I'd recommend replacing both at the same time. If ones bad, the other isn't too far behind.

okay thanks, Fitz! Roger that, will do. Like your DD build, by the way. Basically what I wanna do as well, since she's my DD and I use her on road, but when I get her beefed up a little I plan on taking her off. Just gotta make sure she's steady first.

Well, I had to drive her and found out for sure what the problem is. My cat started to rattle. Temp gun tested the cat again and got worse readings from today than yesterday. *Sighs* I feel like NewbJeep's sig.

Thanks! It's a work in progress, as most are. Hope to get some more work done this weekend.

Eh, that's not too bad though. Yeah it's more money but it's a pretty easy fix. The downstream O2 sensor is right on the rear side of the cat. I'd personally replace the O2 sensors at the same time you do the cat. My cats been rattling away for a while. I have all the stuff (cat, muffler, O2 sensors) to do it all, but I have more pressing things I want to take care of.

Not to be nosey, just curious, as to what could be more pressing? Isn't it bad to drive around with the cat like that? Or do you just not drive it?

Well, it's not plugged or anything, so it doesn't get overly hot, it just rattles a little (usually at first start up & when I shut it down). It really isn't hurting anything. I may get to it this weekend if everything else goes smooth.

Sorry, I thought I sent this earlier yesterday.
