My 97 XJ with 245/75R16 and a 3" lift, has stiff steering sometimes. When turning the wheel like to park or backout of a parking spot, it becomes stiff. Stepping on the gas helps somewhat, but is dangerous. I had my mechanic look at it yesterday, and he recomends replacing both the PS pump and the gear box. Has anyone had these same symptoms?

 

Does it kinda crab walk as your pulling into a parking spot?

 

No, just becomes stiff. Wife can't even park it.

 

I would say pump if revving the engine helps.

What WJ year will work on a 98 XJ? I'm looking to replace my PS pump soon too.
