Hey all,

I have a mysterious leak. I thought that it was an oil leak from the valve cover gasket. I recently replaced the valve cover gasket and it seemed to stop leaking as much oil. I was driving on the free way today and I started smoking like crazy! The weird thing is that it smelt like burning but when I stopped and turned the engine off it started leaking coolant like crazy. I checked under the hood and snapped the following pic. Does this look like a coolant or oil leak? I cant tell by the consistency of the leaked fluid which kind of fluid it is. I have a renix cherokee. The leak after I stopped was coming from the coolant reservoir. Do yall have any ideas?

It's pretty common for the O rings in the oil filter adapter to harden and leak oil. Since the exhaust pipe goes across behind the engine it can blow back and burn in the hot pipe....Just a thought. http://www.myjeepxj.com/cherokee-rep...filter-adapter


In the link in my Signature Cruiser had a deal he wrote for our leaky old Jeeps! Basically, I'd clean it and then watch right away...driving home from the car-wash is TOO far. Once it blows around, you are right where you started.

Those expansion bottles for the cooling burst too often. I finally learned to leave mine at least 1/2 empty so air can compress, instead of it bursting.

Find what is leaking, and from where!

That seems like an oil filter adapter leak then? My coolant bottle is empty when cool, but when it heats up it gets full...
