oxygen sensor question
I got a 2000 XJ with the 4.0L engine. And I'm looking to replace the Pre Cat O2 sensors
Any idea on why Denso lists one part number per bank while NGK lists only one part number as a OE replacement?
NGK Part Nuber
23506

Denso Part numbers
234-4076 Cylinder 1,2,3; Cylinder 1,2,3; O.E. Quality Replacement Sensor
234-4077 Cylinder 4,5,6; Cylinder 4,5,6; O.E. Quality Replacement Sensor

Thanks

I believe he was asking why one manufacture has one part number, and the other has two? I believe the only thing that would be diffrent would be wirelenght
Send TWO sensors? I doubt that. But here are the price difference
Amazon has the NGK for
$29.20 + $5.10 shipping
Denso Part numbers 234-4076
$38.50 + free shipping
Denso Part numbers 234-4077
Price: $32.62 + free shipping

Calif. spec jeeps have 4 O2 sensors, 2 pre and 2 post cat. Make sure you're buying the correct O2 sensor. I looked on Amazon and the $29.20 sensor looks to be for the Calif. spec jeeps. Check with the vendor to confirm the correct sensor. ***edit the NGK #23506 is used in both CA and non CA spec jeeps*** Calif. spec 4.0 shown here:

I posted a screen shot from the NGK site on my original post. The part number is correct. And just to clarify. I am NOT in California

Denso lists one part number per bank because those Denso sensors are for Calif. spec jeeps (4 O2 sensors) and the NGK sensor is for non Calif. spec jeeps (2 O2 sensors). Just because you don't live in Calif. doesn't mean your cherokee wasn't built as a Calif. spec jeep.
I'm not trying to start an argument, if you have a total of 2 O2 sensors (1 pre, 1 post cat) your jeep is non Calif. spec if it has 4 sensors it is.

All reading that I have done. It all points out that for this model year. Is that there are two Pre cats and two post cat sensors.
I guess I can crawl under the jeep once I get home & double check. But I am curious on how you got the info on the Denso's being Cali Spec sensors.
Thanks
I have a 2000 xj and have only 2 O2 sensors (total, 1 pre, 1 post cat) if you have 4 you have the CA spec xj. I know the Denso are CA sensors because they list 2 part #s for the pre cat (cylinders 1 2 3 and another for cylinders 4 5 6). What may make this confusing is the CA spec 4.0 and non CA spec both use the Denso 234-4077 or the NKG 23506 sensor.

and One front O2 Sensor

I'm glad I checked. I was just going for what all online part databases were spitting out.

BTW I take it that the correct O2 sensor for the Post Cat is Denso Part # 234-4078? In jeeps that only have one post cat sensor that is.
