Default Oversized Oil Filter? Few other Q's too

What brand Oil filter do yall suggest? What Part number is over sized? Bigger than normal. Seen guys running the bigger oil filters so i thought i'd give it a try. 97 XJ 4.0. Going to put in some 0w-20 Mobil 1 synthetic. Did a ton of research on 0w-20, better for the XJ.
Also, i'm thinking about changing my oil pan gasket before i do this, can u just buy one of those at any auto parts store? How much of a hassle is changing the gasket?
And Tranny fluid, wanna go mobil 1 DEX III. Is this what i should run? Any suggestions on certain brands of tranny fluid that yall like better than others? Going to be putting on a tranny cooler so might as well change the fluid.

Thanks for all the help

where did you do your oil research at??

and mopar filters are among the best you get at most places. I always grab the xj oil filter and match the o-ring and thread pattern to the bigger size. i can never remember the part number

also be aware our jeeps have flat tapper cams meaning they need alot of Zink in the oil or you ruin the cams

I didnt even look at the website you looked at but can tell you running ow20 sounds like a bad idea to me. I mean the only cars that run that are brand new toyotas etc to get better gas mileage for their ratings and for amotor that requires 10w30 doesnt sound right to me. Not sure what you mean by oversized oil filters the jeeps already run a .5 qt oil filter and I dont think you can get a bigger filter to fit..

you can get a bigger filter to fit. You can get one that is 2 times the size of the recommend one.

It allows for better filtering actually. Its a good idea! just not to sure on the oil

The Ford filters will fit. I used the M1-101 Mobil1 filter. (Check the number, it's a guess).

Be sure to use 6 1/2 qts of oil, not 6 if you do use the bigger one.

Ahhh.... Dr. Haas rears his head again....

Two things to remember....

A. His research deals with high performance European sports car motors. Not 50 year old straight six motors. He does provide some valuable information, but to take what he has written without looking at the situation he(and more importantly you) are working with has the same effect as looking in a Toyota owners manual to get fluid specs for your Jeep, cause Toyota makes engines that last.

B. API-SM oils (and the upcoming SN) are too low in Zinc to properly protect flat tappet camshafts. Viscosity is only on part of the picture when you are selecting an oil for a certain situation.

Big Block, Small Block Ford, they all used the FL1A Motorcraft.

I use wix filters myself, and oil is Shell Rotella 15w40, yea its a diesel oil but its good for dirt bikes, and cars and light trucks too. I got diesel engines with a million miles on them and still trucking strong. Best there is IMHO.

wix is a great filter! and the reason diesel oil is good in our cherokees is the amount of zinc it has and other minerals/chemicals. Most modern oils are cutting back on pretty much everything in the oils due to EPA guidelines, so the oil's chemical make up that our engine was designed for 20-30 years ago has changed drastically since then.
