also, the clutch fan is the mechanical fan, not the electric one. but the electric one should come on at a certain temp also. you can mod that one to be operated by a switch in the cab. use one with a light so you know it's on/off.

you need a thermostat, otherwise you will overheat.

Update, I got her all back together and I know what my problem is: The Coolent Temperature Switch is out. Thanks for all the great input and yes, not having the thermostat in it was causing the the major overheating but for the life of me I can't ind that switch and without it the fan isn't kicking on.(tested and the fan is fine) Can anyone tell me in releation to another part, i.e the Distro cap, it is? Is it the plugged in part in the rad?

I am in San Antonio btw.

This has not been discounted and is most likely my final outcome. I do hear some lifter noise and I lose compression once she hits boiling point. I just want to exaust all other options before I dump a new head into it.

Mine did the same thing. Flushed everything about 3 time. Replaced radiator, finally fixed it.

Some d-bag machanic put that sealer stuff in my 89 when my mom was still driving it and screwed it over. I had to replace the thermostat, coolant bottle, heater core, and I flushed the system a few times and theres still a reddish tint to the coolant. It runs fine now, but its only a matter of time till I have to replace more. NEVER put that sealant in the cooling system. I just wanted everyone to be aware of that.

Our 87 AMC 2.5 overheated all the time. We also had an alternator that kept going out. We had freeze plug issues that somehow cured the overheating.
