Let's see: I was going down the interstate back in November and my Jeep started to overheat pretty bad. I was a dumb *** and kept driving it. It ended up cutting off and not starting again. Here's a bit of info for a diagnosis: The coolant in the radiator cap was boiling/ burping air. The reservoir still contains coolant. The head gasket is most likely blown (oil dripping from the gasket). there are no signs of coolant in the oil and vice-versa. there was really no leaks until it was being pulled up on the roll back, water was coming from the water pump. It will turn over but it wont start. sounds like theres no spark. I believe the spark plugs got wet during this whole mishap. It's a stick, if i stick it in 1st or reverse and crank it, It still jumps in that direction. It's been sitting outside since then...I finally got some money together to start working on it. I have a thermostat, a waterpump, and all gaskets involved coming in the mail now. I will pull the head soon to ship it off to get redone. I was just wondering if I'm wasting my time and money or do you guys think I can bring life back to my XJ? Oh yeah, It's a 94 5spd 4.0L inline 6. Thanks in advance.

You should CONFIRM this problem.
A simple compression test on all cylinders is the place to start.
If you see low compression on two adjacent cylinders, that indicates a blown head gasket.
The spec for the 4.0 is 120-150 psi, with no more than a 30 psi variation between cylinders.
Good data = good decisions. Start there.

Any xj is worth fighting for in my opinion. Could buy a new one and the same thing happen a day later. Mine is an 89 with the renix setup and over heating is like the windows fogging, it's just a daily event I have to overcome. Lol
