Overheat light comes on but XJ isn't hot?!?!?
I have a '90 XJ 4.0 and went through a PRETTY DEEP mud pit the other day. After a couple more minutes of wheeling, my temp. dummy light came on. The XJ didn't seem hotter than normal, but I shut her off anyway. After a while, I turned her on and the light was still on. I continued my afternoon of wheeling, and drove the 45 minutes home with no bubbling noises or anything like that. The XJ has been still for about a week and a half, and when I decided to take her to work today, about 5 - 10 minutes into my drive, the light came back on. In about 5 more minutes I got to my job, popped the hood and checked my reservoir. It was still full, and the radiator felt warm, not hot. I could actually leave my hand on there with no discomfort whatsoever. As for the cooling system, I have a new (2 -3 months old) fan clutch, and an always-on electric fan. The coolant still looks green and nothing seems out of the ordinary. Also no leaks that I can see and there are no puddles where I park. The only thing I can figure is that something got messed up while wheeling in the mud, like a connector or something. Any help is GREATLY appreciated!!!
