Been overheating about a half dozen times lately, nothing too seroius exept for this last time where the engine was knocking just before i shut it off, should I replace my oil just to be safe? Is it really necessary to replace tranny fluid? I know it is in a separate part of the radiator so it probably heated up but didn't burn, is there anyway to tell?

 

Fix the overheat and change the oil/fluid......u'll sleep better at night.

I would find out what is causing the over heating problem first then worry about changing the oil.

 

I replaced radiator, hoses, therm...then changed the oil and tranny fluid

Glad that you got her going again. Just keep an eye on your temp. just to be on the safe side.

 

....how about the water pump?

 

Didn't replace water pump/ still working, not leaking. Can't I do that later if I start leaking. Coolant again?

 

sure y not if its not broken leave it unless your cooling system was just disgusting internally

 

I would change oil and coolant just to be safe, plus it let's you check the fluids for mixing.
How's your mechanical fan?

 

There was gunk in there but I'd say I flushed most of it out

 

Mech fan working, also got a new electric fan

 

I'm gonna bet the heads all sorts of warped.

Yep, u can do it later but sooner than later, u'll sleep better. LOL. The 4 main cooling components r the radiator, water pump, t-stat and fan clutch......all equally important to maintaining a cool motor. 3 of those 4 require opening the cooling system and anytime u open/drain/re-fill coolant, it gets a little messy and spendy, not to mention environmental issues. The main component of the water pump is the impeller, not the seals. Pumping efficiency can slowly decrease with time/miles but it may never leak.
