I still suspect a radiator that's not at 100% efficiency (along with the efan set-up).

Seems odd that "it will sit and idle all day at 210" but "when I get in the woods and go real real slow it gets hot". Going real slow is not much different than sitting at idle. R u negotiating a really steep grade? What r the driving conditions "in the woods"?

I've seen the same for the OE electric fan. I can't remember if I found the 5k CFM on JeepForum or NAXJA. I don't remember if there was an operating RPM specified... probably up there with the clutch definitely heated up.

Equally as scientific: The mechanical fan sounds like a big truck or plane when it gets going. The electric fan just kinda whines

What "in the woods" and "driving real slow" is causing "more strain"?

I'm just a ol dum Georgia Farm Boy...but when you are driving you have more moving parts which puts more strain on the Jeep>when you are sitting and the motor is at idle less moving parts.

When moving, even slow, additional cooling air passes thru the rad vs when sitting still. Coolant flows thru the motor and rad faster when moving, even when moving slow. I'm just trying to understand what's causing the additional strain when in the woods......but again, I'm thinking a combo of reduced rad efficiency and reduced fan CFM air flow are the culprits.

I have a '93 XJ w/ 4.0 125,000 miles.....I too, had the same issue. I did the deed I had been dreading.. changed the valve cover gasket. I bought the best one. rubber and steel by fel-pro. All I expected was for the doggone oil leak to go away.. WELL. it's got more get up and go.. the overheating is history. and best of all. no more lubricating parking lots all over town... I mean it would dump a several tablespoons every time I parked. BIG TIP: when removing the cables over the cover..... all U need do is unscrew the mount they're on... and lift it over to the left..

Valve cover gasket stopped his overheating problem, added 50 HP, and cured male pattern balding!

You guys don't understand that oil acts as a insulator and holds heat next to the block. I just started wiping my block down with tissues before I drove it and engine temp dropped 20 degrees! Plus, I can do 100 ft. burn-outs in 2 wd. Only 25 ft. in 4 wd. Poor guy had his posts mixed up.......
