orifice tube location?

im new here and have searched but could not find the information im looking for. I need to know the location of the orifice tube on a 99 cherokee with the 4.0. i have a general idea but pictures would be so much better. if anyone has any, i would greatly appreciate it.

The tube is in-line and cannot be changed with out changing the hose. It just looks like a bulge in the line.

the xj uses an expansion valve. its on the fire wall

thanks guys for the responses. after a little more research online i found that in fact it is not seperate and i would have to order a whole new line. The problem im having is that after about 10 mins of running the ac, it stops working. the line going into the accumulator literally freezes up solid. i put the gauges on the ports, its at 300 on the high side and only 20 on the low side. i think the compressor is still good (i hope) but am believing there may be a blockage somewhere in the system, hence my reason to start with the orifice tube. has anyone else experience this problem?

It is likely that you do have a blockage. If you are going to try to clear it you will need to get new line and the accumulator. The evap core will need to also be cleared with compressed air but not too much presure just enough to blow the junk and old oil out. Be advised that servicing ac can be a nightmare. When you start removing parts always replace o rings. Good luck!

ok i bought a new accumulator to swap out in the system. i dont have a service manual for this truck. i was wondering if i have to add any oil to it before installation. only a few drops came out of the old one. and if i do have to add oil, which type should i use. sanden recommends sp-20 which i cant find anymore, i found an chart online saying pag 100 is its equivalent?

If u really want to do it up right, buy 2 cans/bottles of a/c flush, a new accumulator/dryer, new liquid line/orifice tube and the correct amount of PAG oil for a '99 XJ. I believe the amount of oil varies from year to year...factory spec for our '98 is 8.1 ozs. BE VERY CAREFUL, remove compressor, turn upside down and drain oil. Pour 1 can of flush in the evap, 1 can of flush in the condenser and blow both out with compressed air. Add 1/2 of the correct amount of oil for a '99 model to the new accumulator/dryer and the other 1/2 of oil to the compressor. Make all your connections using new o-rings and take it to a pro to pull a vacuum and add r134a. Be sure to tell the Tech it's got oil and u need straight r134a, not r134a with oil added.

ive already cleaned out all the lines, changed the orings i needed to change other than the new ones that the accumulator and orifice tube line came with. i guess i could change the oil in the compressor. i dont have a svc manual to tell me how much oil and what type to add. all i found online was sanden's recommendation of the sp-20 oil. i found nothing on how much to put where.

Some one posted a link on here a while back of a web site where you can down load an fsm for your year for free. I don't know where it is but if you search around you might find it. When I saw it I down loaded it right away, unfortunately I am 93.
