Default ooil filter leak problem

Hello fellow jeep lovers. I have just done a lot of work on my 95 jeep cherokee which has a 4L straight 6 engine. I just completed replacing my clutch kit, and was ready to put in new oil and a new oil filter just like I have for the past 12 years. I cannot stop the filter from leaking. First time this has ever happened. I have purchase 2 napa 1085 oil filters and one mobil M1-204 filter. After several tries of tightened , loosening , dripping oil I decided to take a closer look. It appears when they built the motor back in 1995 they threaded the tapped hole for the threaded nipple that receives the filter slightly off center. I have turned on 4 new filters, not cross threading. Threads are matching up perfectly, very smooth on and off removal of the filter. But when the rubber o-ring on the filter first makes contact with the machine surface that is suppose to receive the o-ring I noticed that the filter o-ring touches the metal mating surface on one side of the filter leaving a gap on the other side that is at least as large as the protruding o- ring gasket .Therefore when I tightened the filter I am over squeezing one side of the gasket and cant get enough tension on the other side. I talked to the mobile oil filter customer service and they said that the oil filter o- ring gaskets use to be twice as tall as they are presently now. Which means that I am running out of compressible o-ring before it is tightly sealed all the way around. My local Napa dealer cannot find an old style filter with the taller o-ring that my misaligned threaded insert requires. Has anyone heard of this problem before? I am presently looking at the after market supplies for a larger retrofit o-ring. Any suggestions. I would like to start using my jeep again.
Thank you

Yikes. I'd buy an oil filter adapter off of one of these part outs, get the new O ring kit, and knock out two birds with one stone.

Have you tried the MOPAR filter?

Believe it or not, at least my local Wal*Mart carries them. That's what I use on my '92 Laredo.

I use a WIX on my '87 Pioneer.

Thanks for your reply. Would I be able to install this adaptor even if the threads that accept my filter pipe nipple is a little off center. How would the adaptor be able to compentsate for the misaligned female threads. Is it because the adaptor has a thicker o-ring ? thanks very much for your replie. Love my jeep. Not looking to sell it.

The adapter is the 90 degree thing between the block and the filter. The off-center nipple is part of your existing adapter. Replacing the adapter will solve your problem and you'll no longer have a tweaked nipple (ouch!).

Get an adapter off another 4.0L Jeep at your JY (do a practice run on yours first - so you'll know which tools and how to "approach") and buy an adapter o-ring kit at your Jeep dealership (~$6). This pic is for the o-ring set for my '99 - might be same for your '95...
