I am trying to bring a neglected 92 Cherokee back to life. It came with the AISIN 5 speed behind the 4.0 6-cylinder. I have a BA10/5 from a 87 cherokee, also with 4.0 6-cyl. I have asked several questions in this forum over the past few weeks concerning trans and axle swapping and gotten no reply of any kind. I don't know if I am posting my questions in the wrong section, or if they are just stuff that any Jeep fan should already know and therefor not worth a reply?
At this point I'll settle for: Can anyone tell me if the bellhousing patterns are the same. If it will bolt up, I can probably figure it out from there, unless anyone out there knows some reason it won't work.
I'm hoping for some input before I start pulling the 92 apart; as it sets, it's drivable, other than a missing 4th gear.
Any info at all is appreciated!

I've never seen one of the Peugeot BA10's. That's probably a big part of the issue, those trans went away in 1989 or so and I'd bet most here don't have one.
I was able to find this if it helps:

Ba/10 takes a different pilot bushing ,also crank shaft hole for bushings different size from renix to ho. Fixing Ax-15 tranny would be best route.Every one upgrade from ba to ax never heard of going backwards. also transfercase spline counts different bas 21 ax 23 ...

Appreciate the info; that answered most of my questions. Yes, I know the BA/10 is a step backward, but I already own one complete w/ NP231 and shafts, linkages, etc, (actually it's a mostly complete 87 cherokee) all in good working order, and at this time this is a seriously "budget" build. I figure doing it this way I can at least get "Jezabelle" converted over to 4WD and fully operable, and will have less than $1500.00 in the project including the original costs of the 92 2wd and the 87 donor 4wd. Somewhere down the line, I agree, a fresh(er) AX15 would be the way to go.
Anyway, thanks for the input; I can now move forward with this, or at least as forward as you can go with a "backward" swap!
