Default old to newer swap

Maybe a question for the renix guys. I have an 89 and am thinking about buying this 92. I need to swap over my motor trans and transfer. Is this poss. by maybe using the 92 intake and dist. Or what do I need to do to make this work.
Thanks
Frankie

The head will need to be swapped also. The Renix head and H.O. head have different shaped ports and do not flow well when mixed. You can get it to run but performance will suffer as will fuel mileage. So in a nutshell.you can use the renix block, trans, and tcase but should use the 92s H.O. head, intake and exhaust manifold.

84-86 are AMC, 87-90 are Renix, 91-01 are H.O.

I am not sure I remember seeing it some where. I just went outside and check the back and it only says 4.0 liter. But I could swear I have seen High Output on it. Maybe I am wrong. I dont think the valve cover says it.

I'm sure there is a casting number to go by, but I do not know what they would be.

Ok well I thank you for your help. I will check into the it alittle more. I have a 93 2 door bad body and good motor. A 92 im buying that has a bad motor (hole in piston) but should be a good head. I will prob use my 89 motor and the 92 head. Build it and try it out.

I have an 91 H.O XJ that i put an renix motor in, I swapped out the intake, exhaust, dist., and all the front pulleys. Had to make an coil bracket. The H.O motors have the coil mounted to the block. The Renix motors are are not. Runs good lots of power Gas milage so so I`m lifted 8 inches on 35`s so go figure.

So you used your renix head with the set up?

You can use your renix head but you won't get any power from it. The H.O. head has better flow and combined with the exhaust manifold makes the H.O. an H.O.
