My aftermarket parts book shows a 32RH listed as the auto in 2001 only....
If the tranny is an AW-4.. No ATF+4. Dexron III is the correct fluid.
And no the AW-4 isn't a Chrysler tranny. It was a Toyota design.

This should settle the debate, at least I hope it does because I just spent a lot of time and money flushing out my trans (AW-4) and going to ATF+4.

I replaced a filter in my AW4 and refilled it with Chevron MD3 transmission fluid.

There was a later TSB issued that specifically exempted AW-4s from any ATF+4 recommendations. I saw it on a Dodge truck forum, but I can't for the life remember which one now.

You're right it doesn't settle anything but I always put my money on the TSB's. My source was AllData and they claim to have up to date TSB's. I just got off the phone with my local dealer's service manager and explained the situation. He pulled up the '07 TSB we're talking about and read it as we talked. He was admittedly surprised as he has a '99 XJ and uses Dextron fluid. He told me that he gets the TSB's within minutes of being published and there are no more recent TSB's on this subject.
It probably doesn't matter much as he said that in the 3 years that he's been at that dealer (it's a big dealership) he's only seen 1 trans (AW-4) go bad. Thanks for the input.

Specifically exempts the AW-4 trannies, FIVE YEARS after the production of them ended.. but only a few months later Chryco, who makes money off of every quart of ATF+4 made, says its okay???
And of course the service manager who just got you to spend alot of money(your words) isn't going to admit anything other than what is going to make him and his service department more money. Thats his job. He is paid by the dealership's owners to get people to spend money, not protect you.

Remember that the clutches need to be slipping in order to soften that shift. The more slippage you have the more wear you are going to get. Also the more heat that is produced as a byproduct of the friction and slippage. Ill take the firmer shift without spending the money on a shift kit.

Anyway, like in the military I'll obey my last order first and go with the latest TSB, even though I'm a little concerned how smooth this trans shifts. I don't know if the AW-4 normally shifts smoothly, but mine shifted smoothly with the old crap I drained out when I first got it.
Thanks for posting the '06 bulletin, I was hoping you'd find it. One would think the Chrysler engineers would have their act put together a little bit better.
I just threw the TSB out there so people can decide for themselves and/or do their own research...isn't that what this forum all about?
