True, but op is not talking about winter driving.

In the winter, an engine takes longer to reach operating temperature and cools off faster when shut off. Since the engine management system orders up a richer mixture when cold (proportionately more fuel in the air/fuel combination), more fuel is being burned overall.

Now jeep stays well below 210, while running, idling, all the time. Is this an issue? If there's a previous thread for this, just send me there.

Thanks!

Not so in summer triple digits, XJ rad is too small........temps vary 180-230 and any where in between. Again, ScanGauge, not factory idiot gauge.
Ok cool thanks was just wondering cause it time to do a flush before winter hits.t/y

Couldn't agree with u more. The only thing I disagree with is the statement "210 is peak performance operating temp" That's just where the factory has rigged the dash gauge to point, almost year round. In cold/cool/even moderate temps it won't reach 210, unless u have a 210 t-stat.

Understood, Reword my statement to the closer to 210 the better fuel mileage it will achieve.

Are we at an agreement? lol

that is the optimum temp for all sensors to perform properly below that you computer think the motor is in need of more fuel like running with the choke on which equals bad gas mileage you will be running in open loop

Ok, we disagree, that's cool. I'm going by a digital scan tool that displays info from the ECU in 1 degree increments......not a dash gauge that has 3 numbers and some white marks.

.....and that is a myth, especially on OBD-II vehicles. Closed loop is entered shortly after start-up, when the heated O2 reaches operating temp and well before coolant temp reaches any where near normal.

Sorry to jack but I am having the same issue since I installed a new radiator a few months ago. This is where it normally runs now, and from what I have gathered from this discussion, it is fine? It runs a little lower coming down a hill or when the wind is cold(but I have ordered a grill cover for the winter)
