Default ok... new problem... tranny/transfercase spline counts

ive got a 96 AX-15 tranny... everything i read on the net said that as long as i got a 4.0 transfer case it didnt matter which year... well that thread i read was crap... cause i found a 88 XJ 231 with only 90k on it in the JY and the spline count is different... SO... looks like ill be selling this one and buying another one...

for a 96 ax-15 auto... what years/models can i get the darn transfer case from?

also read some about there being a long shaft and a shorter shaft difference in the 231's... so i need to get which ever one was there... when i pulled the tranny from the JY the transfercase was already gone or i would have grabbed it at the same time and all this mess wouldnt be here... go figure... lol

the 96 ax-15 had a 23 spline count.

the 88 231 has a 21 spline count...

i believe 93 is when the switched to the 23 spline???i would just try to find a 96-99 231. in 00 they went to the np3500 manual tranny

Swap the input gear..

Betcha can find a blowed up TC somewhere that can donate the part.

You need to check the input length required for the AX-15.. i'm not familiar.

Did the 88 have an auto trans?
