Synthetics are very nice. don't run them in a fresh motor, but after a few oil changes its usually a real nice way to go. expensive, but i felt a significant difference when i switched to full synthetic in my Camaro.
I run 10w30 Castrol GTX in my Jeep. and Castrol Full Syn in the Camaro.

6qts yes
10w30 or 10w40
don't use "high mileage" oils they have "conditioners" that swell up seals and cause them to deteriorate.. A good Synthetic (real synthetic) is fine, I recommend ELF or ENEOS when running synthetic.. If running dino oil I recommend Castrol or Mobil clean.
The only trick is to put a rag under the oil filter and hope that catches the mess, otherwise a can of brake cleaner to spray everything off before u put the new filter on is always great.. Don't bump the oil pressure sensor

180k miles, I run 10w-40 here in AZ.
Once you have drained the oil pan, move your catch pan over to under the oil filter. I remove my filter out the top of the motor while standing at the fender. As the filter comes off the stud, turn it up right to keep from dumping all the oil out, and simply guide it up out. I usually slide a finger in the threads for grip.
