Ok so when I get under my Jeep there is oil kinda everywhere, there is a drip on the oil filter, and the tranny is damp as well as a little wet area on the exhaust pipe. I will post a pic as soon as I can, but wanted to get some ideas. if I start it up and get under it there is no obvious leak or dripping and after 8 hours at work there is no wet spot on the ground at all. so it only can be leaking while driving right?? wtf?? I am no mechanic but I like to work on it myself so I need some thoughts please.... thanks

it is not hard you buy the o-ring kit from the dealer, drain the oil, pull the hollow bolt that holds the adapter in place,(usually torx or allen) replace the o-rings(3), and but it back together. I think there is a write up or ten around. If you have a second set of hands it helps when you are geting things back together if you have short arms like me.

Thanks, I need to find the write up cause I cant even begin to budge this bolt. I bought the T60 TORX but cant get the socket in between the frame and Oil housing tried to use a 1/2 inch wrench, no go, so there has to be a trick to it...

Some have removed the engine mount bolt and jacked up the engine to better reach the bolt. Others have more creative solutions.

This thread addresses the problem pretty well:
Oil Filter Adapter o-ring

This is also on MY to-do list. Mine has a hex bolt, though.

replaced the O-ring on mine last year. Took 20 minutes. Really easy job and cheap if you have access to a hoist.

Did mine last year, it was a pain in the ___. Had to use a 4 ft cheater bar and bent a craftmans end wrench.

all done, no more leak at the oil filter housing. T60 TORX, half inch wrench, four foot pipe, wedged a smashed copper pipe between the TORX and frame, got up top put the pipe over the wrench and prayed I would brake anything and pushed worked like a charm....

thanks for all the help ,,,,,,,

Outstanding

Did mine 2 weeks ago and just checked. No leaks. Symptom was it would mist oil on to the exhaust pipe area at around 75 mph. Leaked otherwise, as well.
