Default Oil Q

I know this has been covered a few times but I couldn't find exaclty what I was looking for while searching. I have a 97 with about 175k on it, have only had it for a few thousand miles. I'm wondering what kind of oil I should be running in this thing with this kind of milage, I don't know what the previous 2 onwers used, plus since the millage is so high I think staying away from synthetic would be a good idea, correct?. When I first got it I put in high millage valvoline 10-40, is the 10-40 the way to go, or a 10-30, or 5-30, or something else? other suggestions?

Thanks guys

Im pretty sure that the high mileage is either part syn or full syn. This arguement goes on forever. Ive heard that the oil company's have put on their websites that you can now go back and forth between oils and not worry about your seals. But I think its up to you how much you trust their words. From what I understand the higher mileage oils have something in them to make the seals swell to stop the leaks. As far as oil weight though, up hear Ive been told to use the heavy stuff in the winter and the 30's in the summer. Wrong or right???

Look in the owners manual, it will tell you what to use.
