I was checking prices for a new oil pump at the local parts house earlier today. Two places quoted about 80 bucks for the pump. The third place started talking about a rebuild kit and the front cover with slots, 50 bucks for the rebuild kit, or 160 for the new pump. He was making it sound like alot of work.
I have never had the oil pan off of a 4.0. I assume the oil pump is pretty easy to replace if the oil pan is off. (I want to replace the rear main and the pan gasket anyhow.)
Am I wrong in thinking that the pump is just a matter of a couple of bolts once the pan is out of the way? Has anyone used a rebuild kit for it? For 30 bones Im thinking of just getting the high volume pump screen assembly from Oreilly Auto Parts.
