Default Oil Pump Priming

I've been reading up on this and looking on youtube. Everyone I talk to seems to have a different opinion. Here's what I'm hearing:

1.) take the new pump apart and load it with Vaseline (I've also heard this is bad)
2.) Stick it in a drip pan with oil and spin it till it has oil then install its just like changing your oil.
3.) Pull the main coil wire and turn it over till you have pressure
4.) Pull the crank sensor and spin with a drill

Opinions? Or am I just over thinking this?

I have always done the Vaseline method and never had a problem. I have also primed it by spinning it with a drill but it always seemed much easier to fill it with Vaseline and not to have to mess with anything else.

So just take the top plate off and fill it full of Vaseline correct?

I just squirt motor oil into the pump before installing. No need tor priming with drill either...that is only necessary for a new engine rebuild when everything is dry. BTW, every time you shut off an engine the oil drains out of the pump anyway so this vaseline thing is a myth. Oil it up and your good to go...start engine and let it idle until pressure builds. Your motor is protected by the residual oil, no different then starting your car after it has been sitting for several days.

This is why a quality oil filter with an anti drain back valve is important, think of holding your finger over the end of a straw filled with liquid. On the first start after an oil change the system has drained and you have 0 oil pressure for a period of time, starts after that with a decent filter should not have much of a delay. I have built a number of engines, the first when I was 16 (a long time ago), and always pack the oil pump cavity with petroleum jelly. It works with no issues and you have pressure almost instantly.

Disconnect the CPS. Crank the engine over til you see pressure on the gauge. That's a matter of seconds. Plug CPS back in. Fire it off.
