Well I am pretty sure my oil pump has gone bad. The reason is when I turn on my 1989 jeep comanche 4.0 4x4, I hear a loud clicking noise for about 5 seconds then the sound stop. The oil light stays on for this 5 seconds also then turns off when the noise stops. So ima thinking no pump no pressure so thats why the light is on. But that dosent seem to bad till recently. When I drive for more then 30 minutes that sound comes on and my engine gets extremely hot. If I dont keep the pedal down it dies. But this happen once yesterday and now I dont drive it because I dont want to break it. So once again i will be taking down the oil pan to replace the pump. I just wanted to put this up to ask two things. One what do you think is happening? Im almost positive its the oil pump but if you think not please correct me. And considering im dropping the oil pan again(2 times in past month). What should I replace so I dont have to drop it again? Please give me a list and thank you all!

What's your oil pressure gauge indicating?
TEST your oil pressure with a mechanical gauge that you can rent from parts stores.
A cheapie oil filter can cause the same symptoms of ticking..................

Okay im actully going to hook up a oil pressure gage I bought. So please keep looking at this post cause I will reply on it. Also should I run it till it make the ticking nose and get the reading? Or just warm it up

I would check the pressure at both time just to make sure that the pressure is dropping.

Your description is of a dry start. This happens when a cheap anti-drain back valve fails. Try changing filters first. Use a quality WIX, also sold as NAPA gold, or a Mopar.

That Can be a really big part of your problem! Try changing you oil and put a GOOD filter. Such as Mopar, Wix or a Napa gold. I know when I change my filter when I first bought my 98 it only had 10psi at hot idle and 20-25psi while at speed. After change out it was up to 35 idle and 40-45 at speed.

Go to Napa and get a Napa Gold filter. Install it. Don't change the oil. Then see if the problem still exists.

Keep an eye on the issue you mentioned "When I drive for more then 30 minutes that sound comes on and my engine gets extremely hot." after you change the oil filter.
A new type of filter may not address this problem.
Edit: How hot does the coolant get? You may have more than one problem you're dealing with. The ticking noise and the engine getting extremely hot may be related to the water pump going bad. You may want to remove your serpentine belt and run the engine to see if the ticking noise goes away. Do not exceed 210*F on your temp gauge when doing this, and don't be surprised to see the electric radiator fan kick on. If the ticking noise goes away with the belt removed you may want to change your water pump (and thermostat as well).
Low oil pressure is the other issue that may be addressed by a new oil filter (?)
