Oil Pressure Spiking! Help!!!
Hi there
Let me start by saying my technical knowledge is bare minimum, so if my description of my problem sounds goofy or if I have trouble understanding your responses, forgive me
I am currently driving a 2000 XJ classic 4.0L. Used only for street driving and is my DD (don't have the knowledge or funding for some serious off-road fun
)
While driving earlier this week, I noticed my oil pressure gauge bouncing around abnormally. Before this started happening it would sit right in the middle of the gauge (at 3?) But since earlier this week this problem has persisted!! My oil pressure gauge hovers a little above average when idling but then spikes nearly to the full end of the gauge (at 5?) when I am accelerating! At cruising speed it sits at about 75% full gauge.
I haven't noticed any difference in the way it is driving, and my temp. gauge hasn't shot up or anything. I'm lost
Does anyone know what the problem is? IS this a pretty serious problem? Anything else I should be watching for?? Any quick fixes??? Thanks in advance!
Casey

The oil pressure sending unit (also known as switch) is the most suspect. And when they fail, they usually fail "high".
If you buy, I recommend purchasing from Jeep for the best reliability/accuracy/mating with your factory oil pressure gauge. Worth the extra $20.
