My '97 XJ (260k mi) had been showing low oil pressure for a while now.. so I put in a new sensor and did an oil/filter change on Tuesday.. Now it seems it's too high to be true.. Getting 60-80 psi on the dashboard gauge.

I'm looking at buying an oil pressure test kit and it seems they all have a 1/8" x 27NPT adapter, but google says the one in the Jeep is a 1/8" x 28NPT.. Can anyone point me in the right direction? Thanks

 

The only pressure sensor I have found worth a damn is the duralast at AZone. Still reads too high, but lower than most. Made in Mexico, not China. OEM sensors for 97 no longer exist.

Imjust treat it as an idiot light. It either has oil pressure or it doesn't. Nothing wrong with that, just like most cars.


DO NOT OVERTIGHTEN. Just snug it. It has taperer threads and if you trash them it's easier to just throw the car away.

 

So yeah... The 28TPI fitting in the oil pressure test kit worked fine.. After 2 sensors that said I was dropping under 10PSI, and the new sensor that reads 60-80PSI.. the 'manual' tester read 50 at startup and after a 20 minute drive and idling in the garage for another 20 mins, it only dropped down to 35psi.. So looks like I may not need a rebuild just yet
