I have a 98 Cherokee XJ with 130K miles. About a month ago, the idiot light for oil pressure on my cluster panel Never flickering, but would light up for 30 seconds, then would be off for 5 minutes, then back on for 10 seconds, then off for 7 minutes. Very random.


Obviously, I was concerned and checked the oil level immediately and several times a day for the first week to make sure that the oil level was correct and not leaking. No problems or sounds while driving. Smooth as a whistle.


Fast forward to today. I swapped out my idiot cluster panel for one with real gauges! Finally, I could watch my oil pressure. Now, the oil pressure will go back and forth from 0 to 45 psi randomly, to the same song that my idiot light would turn on and off. Again, it is random and does not match up with the rpm's or anything else. Pressure could go from 40 to 0 psi at 45 mph in a second and back to 40 psi without any detectable change in performance.


Bottom line...do I have a faulty oil pressure switch sensor? I am ready to change that out!

I would change out the oil pressure sender. Mine would peg out at 80 randomly.
